A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run accident on South Marietta Parkway Wednesday morning.
Joseph Gathambyri, 25, of Marietta was riding a bicycle on South Marietta Parkway westbound when he was struck and killed from behind by a vehicle that then fled the scene, according to Marietta Police. Through evidence studied on the scene and a tip to the Marietta Police Department investigators located a black 1994 Toyota Truck at a west Marietta residence believed to be involved in the incident. Further investigation into this vehicle lead to the location and arrest of the driver, Damon Thomas Lautch, 27. Lautch is being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on charges of hit and run, DUI and 1st degree vehicular homicide. Marietta Police say the victim was struck crossing near Allgood Road Monday night.
A pedestrian crossing Cobb Parkway near Allgood Road died Monday night after being hit by a car, according to Marietta Police. The male victim's name is being withheld pending notification of kin, according to police. The accident occurred around 8:55 p.m. Monday when a maroon 2001 Mercedes 320 was heading southbound on Cobb Parkway, just north of Allgood Road. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, who police said was crossing Cobb Parkway outside of the crosswalk. The pedestrian was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died, according to police. An man was crossing Powder Springs Street in the crosswalk, against the pedestrian traffic signal, when he was struck by a vehicle at the Chestnut Hill Road intersection.
Marietta Police are investigating a serious pedestrian crash that occurred on Powder Springs Street at the Chestnut Hill Road intersection Friday night. An adult male, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, was crossing Powder Springs Street in the crosswalk, against the pedestrian traffic signal. He was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Powder Springs Street in the right straight lane. The driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Nicholas Archer of Marietta, told police that he did not see the pedestrian until impact occurred. A pedestrian was hit on South Cobb Drive and later pronounced dead Sunday night, according to the Cobb County Police Department. Authorities say Jose Luis Zamarripa-Perez of Smyrna, 55, was attempting to cross South Cobb Drive near the intersection of Waldrep Circle at about 7:45 p.m. when he was struck by a black 1990 Jeep Cherokee. Preliminary investigation suggests that Zamarripa-Perez was walking westbound and not at a pedestrian crosswalk. The driver, 63-year-old Nafisa V. Sheriff of Marietta, was traveling southbound on South Cobb Drive. Zamarripa-Perez was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Pedestrian Struck, Killed on 41 A motorist about 1:35 this morning struck a pedestrian wearing dark jeans and a black shirt, who appeared to have improperly crossed the highway, Cartersville Police Department Chief Thomas Culpepper said in a news release. A female pedestrian wearing dark clothing stepped into the path of a white 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix heading southbound on Sandtown Road, the Marietta Daily Journal and Examiner report. The woman was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital but died as a result of injuries, the MDJ and Examiner report. The identity of the black woman, approximately 5-foot-4, 110 pounds, is not known. She is believed to be in her forties or fifties and has short gray hair. A 21-year-old Marietta man was hit by a car while crossing Roswell Road at North Marietta Parkway Tuesday night, 11 Alive and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Kevin Donelson was hit by a southbound Hyundai Sonata driven by Kwon Young, 53, 11 Alive and The AJC report. Donelson was in a crosswalk but did not have the right-of-way. He was taken to Kennestone Hospital and was in critical condition Wednesday morning. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident, 11 Alive and The AJC report. A pedestrian was injured in an accident involving a vehicle on Powder Springs Road near Oxford Road in Marietta on Thursday night. Preston Lee Hester, 62, of Greensboro, NC, was trying to cross Powder Springs Road against the light just before 10 p.m. when he was hit by a green 2002 Toyota Camry that was traveling north on Powder Springs Road on a green light. Hester was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital and treated for serious injuries. The driver of the 2002 Toyota Camry has been identified as 44-year-old Craig S. Goldstein of Marietta. He was not injured. Alcohol use by Hester is suspected to be a contributing factor in this collision. Cobb police investigators do not expect to charge Goldstein.

I was driving down South Cobb Drive between Concord Road and Church Rd/St. on Saturday, at about 7:30 pm, and a woman was trying to cross the road in between two traffic lights.
