Not only can your pets be affected by Salmonella from dry pet food being recalled by Natara Pet Products. Humans also are at risk from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products. Lean Cuisine, made by Nestlé Prepared Foods Company, has issued a voluntary recall for some of its packages of ravioli because the meal may contain fragments of glass, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The recall pertains to packages of Lean Cuisine Culinary Collection Mushroom Mezzaluna Ravioli, with a UPC 13800-58358. The production codes are 2311587812 and 2312587812 and the “best before date” is December of this year. Nestlé is taking this action after three consumers reported they had found small fragments of glass in the ravioli portion of the entrée. Publix has issued voluntary recalls of four separate Chinese-made dog treat products it sells in its stores. Beginning on Jan. 9, the chain issued recalls for Waggin' Train Dog Treats and Milo's Kitchen Dog Treats. Two days later, further recalls were issued for Publix Chicken Tenders Dog Chew Treats and Cadet Brand Chicken Jerky Treat. “As part of our commitment to food safety, including that of our four-legged family members, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves,” said Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director, in a press release. Check the label before seving your kids hot chocolate. Nestlé USA announced the voluntary recall of limited quantities of Nestlé NESQUIK Chocolate Powder in the 10.9, 21.8 and 40.7 ounce canisters. According to the FDA's website, the voluntary recall is limited to only NESQUIK Chocolate Powder, which was distributed nationally. No other varieties of NESQUIK powder or any sizes or flavors of NESQUIK ready-to-drink are affected by this recall. Nestlé said it is removing the canisters from distribution because the company was notified by an ingredient supplier, Omya Inc. that it has issued a recall of certain lots of its ingredient, calcium carbonate due to possible presence of Salmonella.
