Shred Old Documents, Donate Shoes

Keep Marietta Beautiful and Keep Cobb Beautiful will host document-shredding events at the front lot of Marietta Power and Water and Piedmont Church, respectively, on Saturday, March 16.

If you have confidential or sensitive documents that need to be safely discarded, Keep Marietta Beautiful and Keep Cobb Beautiful are hosting free document-shredding events. In addition, if you have gently-worn shoes, you can donate them. Rubber band the pairs of shoes to keep them together. Marietta One-Stop Community Recycling Event

Keep Cobb Beautiful has joined forces with local recycling companies to give residents a chance to recycle clothes, household linen, shoes, electronics, document shredding and latex paint disposal.

Celebrated annually on Nov. 15, America Recycles Day is a nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and buy-recycled products. Keep Cobb Beautiful has joined forces with local recycling companies to give residents a chance to recycle clothes, household linen, shoes, electronics, document shredding and latex paint disposal. The event takes place on Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jim Miller Park and gives residents a chance to clean up their homes just before the holiday season. Items Accepted: "Appliance Amnesty" will also take place 7 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Cobb County Transfer Station, 1897 County Services Parkway, Marietta. Get Out to Document Shredding, Kell March-A-Thon

Keep Cobb Beautiful, Keep Smyrna Beautiful and Keep Marietta Beautiful are joining forces to allow Cobb residents to dispose of unwanted documents by shredding them.

From 9 a.m. to noon, there will be three locations at which residents may have their documents shredded for free. Residents may bring up to 100 pounds of paper to be shredded. Wind Chime designer and artist Janet Hulsey teams up with bead artist Stacey Stickels and take the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ vision to heart.

Art is to see and admire, but it is also to hear. Wind Chime designer and artist Janet Hulsey teams up with bead artist Stacey Stickels at Vintage-ology during the First Friday Art Walk on May 6.  Using found objects of the past, Acworth artist Hulsey creates wind chimes with everything from vintage English biscuit tins to coffee pots with dangling flatware that make beautiful sounds when dancing in the breeze. Hulsey takes the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ vision to heart with her art pieces.  Stacey Stickles’ bead works include bracelets, necklaces and earrings. Final Week of Tree Recycling

Don't know what to do with your Christmas tree? Marietta parks are accepting Christmas trees for recycling.

Don't throw out that Christmas Tree. Bring one for the Chipper! Through Saturday, Keep Cobb Beautiful is sponsoring "Bring One for the Chipper," free tree-recycling drop offs at specified locations, including: Christmas trees can be recycled to create fuel, mulch, habitats for wildlife and other useful materials. After Jan. 8, free mulch will be provided to Cobb citizens at Cobb Parks chipper locations as well as at Davey Trees (770-451-7911.) Recycle Your Christmas Tree

Don't know what to do with your Christmas tree? Marietta parks and Home Depot locations will accept Christmas trees for recycling.

After the holiday season is over, residents are encouraged to help the environment by recycling their Christmas trees. Recycling trees makes mulch, fuel, wildlife habitats and other useful material. Keep Cobb Beautiful will sponsor free recycling drop-offs.  Trees will only be accepted Saturday, Jan. 7, at select Home Depot locations throughout Cobb. For a list of those locations, visit cobbcounty.org/kcb. County Parks and Recreation specified locations will accept drop-offs Dec. 26-Jan. 7.
