MCAA-KSU Education Partnership to Train Future STEM Educators

Marietta Center for Advanced Academics teachers will serve as mentors to Kennesaw State University Elementary and Early Childhood Education undergraduate students as they complete their senior year field and clinical experiences at MCAA.

The Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA) and the Bagwell College of Education at Kennesaw State University (KSU), recently signed an education partnership through the Cobb Chamber Partners in Education program. Members of the Blue Angels visited Lockheed Martin in Marietta on Monday to pick up two pallets of toys to deliver to children impacted by Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey.

Members of the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, visited the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., site in Marietta on Monday to pick up two pallets of toys to deliver to children impacted by Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey. The toys were loaded into the Blue Angels’ C-130 Hercules cargo plane (known as “Fat Albert”) that was built in Marietta and delivered to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. The Blue Angels collected more than 900 toys here, which were donated by employees and Lockheed Martin. About half of these toys are science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)-focused in support Lockheed Martin’s corporate philanthropy commitment to STEM education outreach. MCAA Is Georgia’s First STEM School

The Marietta Center for Advanced Academics is a magnet school for grades 3 to 5 in the Marietta City Schools district. Students study an accelerated curriculum that emphasizes science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The Marietta Center for Advanced Academics was designated as the first Georgia Department of Education Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) certified school Thursday. “It is so important that we begin teaching students about STEM-related careers at the elementary level so we can capture students’ imaginations and interests at a young age," said State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge in a press release. Lockheed Inspires Marietta Students

The Engineers in the Classroom program is a year-round Lockheed Martin initiative allowing students to experience engineering first-hand through activities, interactive presentations and meetings with engineers.

Engineers from the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics facility in Marietta will work with thousands of local students during National Engineers Week, Feb. 19 through 25. Employees will participate in numerous events for students of all ages and grade levels with the goal of interesting young people in technical careers and inspiring them to become the next generation of engineers and scientists. Activities will include hands-on projects and presentations to show how engineering impacts everyday life. During the week, Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA troops will visit the Marietta site for tours of aircraft manufacturing lines and participate in workshops hosted by engineers.
