Sugar Cakes: European-Style Pastries, Home-Cooked Meals

Sugar Cakes Patisserie has been a part of Marietta Square for almost seven years. The French-style bakery and restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and, of course, dessert. Take a closer look at the restaurant with owner and chef Ted Arpon. Patch: How has the Square changed in the last seven years? Has Sugar Cakes changed? Owner/Chef Ted Arpon: Since the beginning, the Square has been changed in a positive way. More people walk around all day—unlike in the past, it was very dark and depressing. We have not changed anything in terms of patisserie, look and mission. “The Square has been changed in a positive way. More people walk around all day—unlike in the past, it was very dark and depressing.” Patch: How would you describe your …

Where to Get the Best Hot Chocolate in Marietta

Take a look at our favorite hot chocolate picks in Marietta, and share your favorites with us.

No matter how old I get, the holidays mean it's time for one thing—hot cocoa. And there is no shortage of this wintery beverage in Marietta! So who do you think serves the best hot chocolate in Marietta? 1. Le Cafe Crepe is my favorite place to get hot chocolate on Marietta Square. Chocolate Chaud (hot Coco heaven)—it earns its name. From the strong freshly-melted dark chocolate to the thick whip cream to the light sprinkle of cinnamon, it's the perfect drink to fight off the cold. While you're at Le Cafe Crepe, try one of their crepes. I suggest Crepe Californienne (vanilla custard with lemons and oranges), Crepe Brazillienne (chocolate mouse with raspberry sauce, cherries and almonds) and Crepe Francaise (cinnamon apples with butter and …

All fabulous places on the Square! I haven't had the Chocolate Chaud from Le Cafe Crepe yet, but now I'll definitely be trying it. Love their Crepe au Jambon. Thanks!   more ›

Satisfy That Sweet Tooth

Sweet Treats, Sugar Cakes and Miss Mamie's Cupcakes serve desserts on Marietta Square.

I have a sweet tooth. There's no denying it. Since I moved to Marietta and began to spend most of my days on the Square, that sweet tooth has experienced an explosion of delights. Miss Mamie's Cupcakes, Cakes and Such. I don't order cupcakes when I'm out. I just don't do it. They have a tendency to send me straight into sugar overload and taste like they've come out of a plastic bag from the corner discount store. Miss Mamie's has made me rethink my attitude toward cupcakes at restaurants and bakeries. In short, they were amazing. Banana Peanut Butter, Carrot, Cheesecake, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Devil's Food, Guinness, Margarita, Mocha Caramel, Red Velvet, Reeses, Rocky Road, S'more, Strawberry, White Chocolate and Yellow—there is a nice …

Bites Nearby: Sugar Cakes

Sometimes the most tedious part of dining out is figuring where to dine out. Patch makes it easy. We find great restaurants for you. This week: Sugar Cakes.

Sugar Cakes Patisserie is known for its desserts for a reason. Sugar Cakes has a nice small intimate setting with a French flare. It is clean with smooth wood surfaces topped with white linen and finished off with artfully presented dishes. The restaurant is conveniently located on the square and makes a great stopping point for dessert and coffee or wine before or after taking in a show at the Strand or Theatre in the Square. Service: The wait at Sugar Cakes wasn't terrible. My food arrived fifteen minutes after I placed my order, and the server had a smile on her face. However, my coffee went empty, and I was never asked if I wanted seconds. Salad: The balsamic house salad is a pleasing blend of spring mix greens, tomatoes, red onions, …

They have good breakfast, but I'm not sure this is the place for dinner. The desserts and sandwiches are good though.   more ›
