1. Join Angels Among Us Pet Rescue on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. for a pet adoption event at The Avenue East Cobb, located at 4475 Roswell Rd. 2. Quarter-Peeled Oranges a book written by Marietta neurologist Bruce Gillett, is a love story written in poetry form as a tribute to Gillett’s late wife, Dale, who courageously fought advanced breast cancer for 17 years and lost her battle in 2010. Gillett, along with his illustrator, Bill Needs, will be at The Avenues at West Cobb Barnes and Noble Saturday to sign copies of their book. Marietta Neurologist Pens Book of Poems in Honor of His Late Wife

Proceeds from the sale of the book “Quarter-Peeled Oranges" benefit the greater Atlanta affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Quarter-Peeled Oranges a book of poems written by Marietta neurologist Bruce Gillett, is a love story written in poetry form as a tribute to Gillett’s late wife, Dale, who courageously fought advanced breast cancer for 17 years and lost her battle in 2010. After a chance meeting at an art exhibition, the author chose to collaborate with Bill Needs, a Marietta vocational rehabilitation counselor, to provide the illustrations for the book. Quarter-Peeled Oranges is published by Southern Lion Books, and all proceeds from its sale benefit the Greater Atlanta Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Quarter-Peeled Oranges began as grief-writing, enabling Gillett to begin to heal after his wife’s passing. The author’s writings evolved into a …

Theatre in the Square and the Strand bring live performances to Marietta while Dupre's hosts a book signing.

Strand to Raise Money for the Cure

The Strand Theatre will be screening Moulin Rouge with 50 percent of proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Earl Smith Strand Theatre is teaming up with Susan G Komen for the Cure on Oct. 15 in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Strand will be screening Moulin Rouge (PG-13), starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, with 50 percent of ticket proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. “As a nonprofit, it’s easy to get caught up in your own fundraising needs, especially in this tough economy,” said Cassi Costoulas, the Strand’s director of business development and marketing, in a press release. “Although our fundraising is still in full force, the staff and board of the Strand believe strongly in being stewards of our community and giving back when possible.” The first 100 guests to arrive and present their ticket will …
