Eco:Nomics: Green Holidays

Think about what you can do to save our planet, save money and live a smaller "carbon-footprint" life.

I cooked the part I took out and put it in my dressing and added an eggplant (whole sideways) and a few red/orange leaves from my chinese maple and put …

Cyber Monday: Avoid the Grinches

The Better Business Bureau offers tips on how to avoid giving online hackers and scammers a shopping bonanza this holiday shopping season.

If you didn’t get gifts for everybody on your list on Black Friday or Small Business Saturday, don’t despair, there’s always Cyber Monday. In fact, according to shopping experts, it has now become the most popular day to shop for the holidays—and why not? You get to avoid all the crowds. However, shopping online opens you up to scammers and hackers just waiting to take advantage of the latest trend. “The convenience and ease of shopping online has replaced the hassle of going to the store for many people—but online shopping has its own set of risks,” said Fred T. Elsberry Jr., president and CEO of the BBB serving metro Atlanta, Athens and northeast Georgia. “Taking steps to avoid the fraud online will result in a much happier holiday for …

Updated: Heart Attack Kills Gobble Jog Runner

The 53-year-old from Paulding County collapsed as he finished the 10K Thursday.

Both the Marietta Daily Journal and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, citing a family friend, are reporting that Gill died of a massive heart attack and was probably dead when he hit the ground. They also say the Gills were regular runners, and Rose Gill routinely beat her husband until Thursday, when she purposely let him finish first. The funeral for Scotty Gill will be Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. at West Cobb Funeral Home, which says he lived in the Dallas area the past 15 years and was a purchasing agent for Dixie Construction Products for more than 30 years. Don't Get Caught Holding the Gift

The BBB offers tips on Black Friday shopping to ensure you don't get caught with a gift someone doesn't want, and one you can't exchange.

Shopping List? Check! Credit cards? Check! Cash? Check? Car keys? Check! Now that you're ready to head out to join fellow shoppers in crowded malls on Black Friday, do you have everything you need? In a press release, the BBB said this knowledge could save time, frustration and, most importantly, money. “Consumers should know that in the state of Georgia companies are allowed to establish their own policies regarding refunds, exchanges and store credits,” the press release reads. “In many firms, no such policies exist. No company is required by law to allow a customer the right to return or exchange merchandise no …
