Governor's Office Recognizes Schools in Marietta

The Marietta Center for Advanced Academics, West Side Elementary, Lost Mountain Middle School and Due West Elementary School were recognized by the Georgia Governor's Office of Student Achievement.

Cobb County schools were recognized under Georgia's Single Statewide Accountability System, developed by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement, to award schools based on their performance on state curriculum exams and Adequate Yearly Progress status. Due West Elementary School was awarded the Highest Performing Gold award, and Lost Mountain Middle School was awarded the Highest Performing Bronze award. Forty-one Cobb schools and 370 Georgia public schools were recognized for improvement and achievement during the 2010-2011 school year, according to Gov. Nathan Deal. Marietta Center, West Side Elementary Get Achievement Awards

Marietta Center for Advanced Academics is one of 28 elementary schools statewide to receive a Highest Performance Platinum Award, and West Side Elementary is one of 57 elementary schools to receive a Highest Performance Bronze Award.

Two Marietta City elementary schools are among 259 Georgia public schools recognized by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement during the 2010-2011 school year for high achievement on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests. For the fourth consecutive year, the Marietta Center for Advanced Academics earned a Platinum Award for Outstanding Student Achievement: Highest Performance. West Side Elementary earned a Bronze Award: Highest Performance. “This is exciting news for both schools. Nine Marietta City Schools Earn Distinction

The Marietta schools were recognized for achieving Adequate Yearly Progress at least three years in a row.

The Georgia Department of Education named nine Marietta City schools 2011 Title I Distinguished Schools. The nine are among 824 Georgia Title I Distinguished Schools recognized by the state for achieving Adequate Yearly Progress at least three years in a row. “We are very proud to add Marietta Sixth Grade Academy and Marietta High School to the list of Title I Distinguished Schools this year,” said Dr. Emily Lembeck, Marietta City Schools Superintendent, in a press release. “This is quite an achievement when you consider that the accountability bar has continued to rise each year making it increasingly more difficult for schools to achieve AYP.” Marietta City Schools 2011-2012 Title I Distinguished Schools:
