YMCAs to Sell Fresh Produce

The McCleskey-East Cobb and Northeast Cobb branches will start bi-weekly sales in April.

In partnership with Eat Right Atlanta, the McCleskey-East Cobb YMCA and the Northeast Cobb Family YMCA will be selling fresh produce starting next week. Fresh fruits and vegetables will be available in the lobbies of both YMCA branches and via online sales. The sales begin on Monday, April 1, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the McCleskey-East Cobb Y, located at 1055 E. Piedmont Road, and on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Northeast Cobb Y, located at 3100 Johnson Ferry Road. The sales will take place every other Monday after that. Cobb YMCAs in Cancer Study

Cancer-free participants are needed for an American Cancer Society prevention survey that starts in March.

Four Cobb YMCA locations, including the Mansour Center in Marietta, will be participating in an American Cancer Society research project next month. The ACS's Cancer Prevention Study 3 will take place at 21 locations throughout metro Atlanta, including the following YMCA branches in Cobb: Men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer are urged to participate in the study. The ACS is seeking to enroll 5,000 residents of metro Atlanta and 300,000 people across the United States and Puerto Rico. The study will help researchers better understand the lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer. Cobb YMCAs to Host World’s Largest Swimming Lesson

McCleskey-East Cobb YMCA (Marietta), Northwest Cobb YMCA (Kennesaw) and other aquatic facilities around the globe will host a 30-minute swim lesson simultaneously in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record.

Soccer State Champions from Marietta

By Bill Bruton Marietta's East Cobb YMCA U-14 Rec Team "Freedom" are the 2012 Georgia Soccer State Champions. After being unbeaten during the season and winning the four-game regional finals, they defeated the Dacula Champions by a score of 2-1 in the Championship Game played in Fayetteville, Georgia. During the 2011-2012 Seasons Freedom had a combined record of 24-0-1, were unbeaten in 25 straight games and un-scored on for 24 straight until the Final. Freedom is Coached by Bill Bruton and Bob Burke. Team Manager is Lauri Bruton. Days of Giving Honors 15 Marietta Nonprofits

Wells Fargo gives $1,000 grants to 234 charities and community groups in Atlanta.

Wells Fargo team members chose 15 Marietta nonprofit groups and 234 nonprofits in all for $1,000 grants in the third year of the Days of Giving program in Atlanta.  A total of 40 groups from Cobb and surrounding areas were honored Tuesday at a breakfast at Mansour Center. The Marietta groups that received checks include: “Just the names of many groups say so much,” said Jim Lawrence, Wells Fargo’s community bank president for Cobb.  “We are proud to reach so many groups and people through this.” The company's Atlanta team members pledged $937,000 through its annual United Way and Community Support campaign, 10 percent more than last year.  Wells Fargo is also making a $600,000 corporate contribution to the United Way of Metropolitan …
