Library, Schools Collaborate for Cobb Summer Reading Program

For the first time, the Cobb County School District is partnering with the Cobb County Public Library System to create a "unified" summer reading experience for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Not only have they developed suggested reading lists to represent both school and public library collections, they have created incentive programs to encourage students to read during the summer break. The last day of school in Cobb is Thursday, May 23. In recognition of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, Central Library staff will host screenings of episodes of the documentary "A Bill Moyers Special: Becoming American, The Chinese Experience."

In recognition of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, Central Library staff will host screenings of episodes of the documentary "A Bill Moyers Special: Becoming American, The Chinese Experience." Passport to Puppetry: Visit Big Bird, the Fraggles, More Puppet Friends

The Passport to Puppetry is valid for up to four free museum admissions and a 25 percent discount for a performance at the Center for Puppetry Arts.

Cobb families can now pay a free visit to Big Bird, the Fraggles and a host of other popular puppet characters by using their Cobb County Public Library System library card. Thanks to a new partnership between the Center for Puppetry Arts and Georgia's Public Libraries, citizens with valid library cards can check out the Center's new Passport to Puppetry at their local library. "There are a lot of surprises with these shows," Allison Murphy, a Marietta resident and a puppeteer of the Center for Puppetry, said. "It's not your traditional puppets if you're thinking puppets are socks on people's hands." The Passport to Puppetry is valid for up to four free museum admissions. ed2go provides instructor-led professional development and personal enrichment online courses including: leadership, advanced fiction writing, Microsoft Excel, photography, grammar, drawing and Spanish.
