One southbound lane of Cobb Parkway and all eastbound lanes of Roswell Street from Key Drive to Cobb Parkway were shut down Monday because of a gas leak.
The gas leak was repaired shortly before 7:30 p.m. All lanes of Cobb Parkway and Roswell Street are now open. All North and Southbound lanes of Cobb Parkway at Roswell Street are open. The right-turn lane from Eastbound Roswell Street to Southbound Cobb Parkway is still closed. Marietta Fire Department and Atlanta Gas Light crews are on the scene of a gas main break at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Roswell Street. One southbound lane of Cobb Parkway is shut down as well as all eastbound lanes of Roswell Street from Key Drive to Cobb Parkway. Marietta Police say the victim was struck crossing near Allgood Road Monday night.
A pedestrian crossing Cobb Parkway near Allgood Road died Monday night after being hit by a car, according to Marietta Police. The male victim's name is being withheld pending notification of kin, according to police. The accident occurred around 8:55 p.m. Monday when a maroon 2001 Mercedes 320 was heading southbound on Cobb Parkway, just north of Allgood Road. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, who police said was crossing Cobb Parkway outside of the crosswalk. The pedestrian was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died, according to police. When two or more jobs are created, businesses may be eligible to receive $3,500 in state income tax credits for each new job for five years. A chemical spill from an overturned truck has shut down a portion of Cobb Parkway Monday afternoon. Marietta Police issued an alert at 3:20 p.m. Monday saying that Cobb Parkway is closed in both directions between Allgood Road and Bells Ferry Road "till further notice" because of a chemical spill from an overturned truck. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a truck carrying 50,000 pounds of sodium hydroxide overturned at Cobb Parkway and Industrial Park Drive, near the Canton Road interchange. The report indicated that a nearby motel and business were evacuated as a precaution. The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) recently awarded the city of Marietta, Southern Polytechnic State and Life universities an $80,000 grant through the Livable Centers Initiative program (LCI). The grant is to help fund a study of properties near Southern Polytechnic State and Life universities that will examine ways to redevelop Cobb Parkway and South Marietta Parkway, increase visibility of the campuses and help to connect the universities with the surrounding community.
