Final Week of Tree Recycling

Don't know what to do with your Christmas tree? Marietta parks are accepting Christmas trees for recycling.

Don't throw out that Christmas Tree. Bring one for the Chipper! Through Saturday, Keep Cobb Beautiful is sponsoring "Bring One for the Chipper," free tree-recycling drop offs at specified locations, including: Christmas trees can be recycled to create fuel, mulch, habitats for wildlife and other useful materials. After Jan. 8, free mulch will be provided to Cobb citizens at Cobb Parks chipper locations as well as at Davey Trees (770-451-7911.) Parolee Arrested in String of Burglaries

Marietta police call it another success for the 2011 Holiday Crime Suppression Plan.

Marietta police believe they have cracked a residential burglary spree with the arrest of a Riverdale man on parole for burglary. Police arrested Moises Sanchez Jr., 28, about 1:30 p.m. Friday at a hotel within walking distance of the neighborhood where the string of home burglaries occurred in the past week, police spokesman Detective Christopher Lindsey said in a press release this afternoon. A search of Sanchez’s hotel room turned up many items stolen in the burglaries, including electronics, jewelry, rare coins, luggage, clothes and a bicycle, Lindsey said. The burglaries all occurred in one part of police Zone 2, which is east of Cobb Parkway and north of South Marietta Parkway. Police detectives and uniform officers found Sanchez …

Banks Collect for Holiday Toy Drive

The Marietta Johnson Ferry Bank of North Georgia supported the Center for Family Resources, and the Marietta Roswell Street location supported Cobb Christmas.

Bank of North Georgia and Bank of Coweta, two divisions of Synovus Bank, hosted a Holiday Toy Drive from Nov. 25 through Dec. 16 at its 46 branches in metro Atlanta. Customers and local residents participated in the Holiday Toy Drive by bringing new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls to the banks. The Marietta Johnson Ferry Bank of North Georgia supported the Center for Family Resources, and the Marietta Roswell Street location supported Cobb Christmas. A total of 2,534 toys were collected through this program. Last year, 2,787 toys were collected. Georgia Army Guard Gives Time to Clark’s Christmas Kids

The Christmas Kids Campaign collects about half of all the gifts the Department of Family and Children's Services gives to children in foster care.

By Clay National Guard Center, Marietta Soldiers with the Georgia State Defense Force (GSDF) and the Georgia Army Guard’s 124th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, 78th Homeland Response Force, volunteered their time on Saturday, Dec. 10 to help Atlanta radio and television personality Clark Howard during his 21st annual Clark Howard Christmas Kids campaign. Every year Howard, who is also a State Defense Force captain with the Public Affairs Office, and News/Talk WSB join with the Georgia Department of Family and Children's Services to provide gifts for foster children across Georgia. Clark's Christmas Kids Campaign collects about half of all the gifts the Department of Family and Children's Services gives to children in foster care. ”This …
