Man Escorted from Cobb Commissioners Meeting

Fernando Wise was removed after refusing to give his name during a public hearing.

A Cobb County man was released after being escorted from the Board of Commissioner's meeting Tuesday night in handcuffs when he refused to give his name during a public hearing. "There is nothing in the first amendment requiring me to give my name to speak," Fernando Wise said. Chairman Tim Lee, who asked Cobb County police officers to remove Wise from the meeting room, said there are processes and procedures in place that must be followed. "I apologize it has to come to this, but we must be consistent," he said. Members of the standing room only crowd yelled, "Let him go!" as Wise was escorted from the room. In the foyer, residents in favor of allowing backyard poultry in Cobb County - of which Wise's father, Lamar, is a member - gathered…

Honestly, it's not about the undocumented - it must really embarrass American's to have immigrants here. I'm surely embarrassed by these comments, by our lack of strengthening family, and by the stupidity of intellectuals that use that same intellect to justify bigotry all to ignore self-reflecting.   more ›

Marietta Madam Guilty of Conspiracy

Luz Gutierrez admitted in federal court to staffing brothels in Cobb County with illegal immigrants.

A Marietta madam pleaded guilty in federal court today to her role in a prostitution ring that brought illegal immigrants to metro Atlanta to work in brothels. Luz M. Gutierrez, 56, was one of eight people arrested in early December in an operation involving federal, state and local law enforcement, including the Cobb County Police Department. She used illegal immigrants as prostitutes and housekeepers, U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said in a news release. The women came from Georgia and other states, including Alabama, Florida, North Carolina and Massachusetts, to work for Gutierrez and Epifania Sanchez Delarosa, who also was among the eight arrested in December.
