Woman Faces Fraud, Drug Charges

She allegedly obtained prescription drugs from a Marietta CVS Pharmacy through fraudulent means.

A New York woman allegedly used the name and Drug Enforcement Administration number of an Atlanta doctor to obtain Vicodin from a Marietta CVS Pharmacy "without the consent, authority or knowledge" of the doctor.

Ameerah Dione Smith allegedly phoned in a prescription to the CVS Pharmacy at 300 Powder Springs St. on June 24 "under the guise that the prescription was legitimately authorized by (the doctor) when in fact the prescription was not phoned in by or with the authority of (the doctor)," according to an arrest warrant.

She did the same thing on July 16 when she unsuccessfully tried to obtain a refill, officials with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office said. Authorities arrested her that day at the store on six charges, including two counts of identity fraud, two counts of obtaining controlled substances by misrepresentation, one count of marijuana possession and one count of drugs not in the original container.

In addition to fraudulently using the doctor's information to obtain prescription drugs, authorities said Smith used her sister's information without her consent. And when she was arrested, authorities said Smith had 13 suspected Clonazepam .5 mg tablets and 2 suspected Clonazepam 1.0 mg tablets in containers bearing the name of another drug. The patient's name was torn off. She also had about 1.8 grams of marijuana in a Publix pharmacy bottle inside her purse, authorities said.

Smith was released Sunday from the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on $10,000 bond, according to online jail records.
