Lemon Grass Thai Restaurant

Sometimes the most tedious part of dining out is figuring where to dine out. Patch makes it easy every Thursday; we find great restaurants for you. This week: Lemon Grass Thai Restaurant

Overview: Located in the East Lake Shopping Center, is one of the best-kept secrets in Marietta. Between the two sides of this shopping center is a lovely tree-lined brick courtyard. The restaurant is tucked away in that courtyard and isn’t visible from the street. I immediately thought: “What a great date place this would be.”

The interior of Lemon Grass is intimate and cozy. It was my first time eating Thai food, and I was curious to see if it was just another version of Chinese food. It wasn’t. Thai food is much spicier. In Chinese restaurants, most sauces are put on the side and you use them to flavor your food. At Lemon Grass, you are asked how you would like your dishes seasoned and they season your food with sauces to suit your taste. The choices are mild, medium, Thai hot or crazy hot.

The Food: I went for the lunch special. For $7.25, I could choose from 15 menu items. The special included a spring roll and house salad or coconut soup. Although coconut soup didn’t sound very appealing, curiosity got the best of me, and I ordered it. It was actually quite good. The hot sweet and sour soup is made with coconut milk and chicken. For my entrée, I ordered the Lemon Grass, the restaurant’s signature dish. Made with the meat of your choice, it is stir fried with broccoli, cabbage, carrots and mushrooms in Thai chili sauce.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when my food arrived. The oval platters were huge, and there were mounds of food on it.  Without exaggeration, this dish could fill two people easily and you still may have some to take home. The food was impressive.

Dinner entrees  are $9 to $15. Family dinners are $12.95 per person and includes one appetizer, one soup, one salad and one main dish

The Drinks: Thai iced tea is a specialty at Lemon Grass. Topped off with cream, it comes to the table in two layers. After you mix it, it becomes a creamy drink with a hint of ginger. The restaurant also has a large selection of wines and beer.
